He closed his eyes.
Shutting off the desolate view ahead of him, the ghosts of children shouting, swimming, shrieking with delight danced behind his eyelids. Their echoes resonated in his mind as his hand dropped to the stone again. His fingertips skimmed the grains of sand that clung to the rock; this time it was hot - a baking warmth that pushed on comfortable.
It was the wind that pulled him from his reverie; the stone became cold, the children silent, the beach still.
This is a amazing story! Well Done!
It’s here! www.twitter.com/myvoicesutton Thanks for asking! From Michael
Here is the example entry for the 100 word story competition for the World Book Night 2012 Countdown. See the post below for details.
Do you say that you do not believe in ghosts? Do you say that you are not afraid of creaky floorboards or dark spaces with cobwebs in them? You should come to my great-great grandmother’s house in Romania, and all of those thoughts will be blasted out of existence forever. You’ll never, and I mean never, want to be in that house alone. I don’t know how my great-great grandmother, a granny of 104, manages it. Everyone thinks she is mad, but she is the only human being who knows about haunting spirits. You don’t see them. You hear them, and feel them, whooshing through your body.

Four weeks left! See the other post for the book review results! This week we will have a story writing competition to celebrate the film clip and book hunt events on World Book Night. The story has to be around a hundred words – but it is not judged by the word limit. We have posted a few example entries as comments above. The best few entries will be featured in a post next week – make sure you enter here! Next week we will have a doodle competition to celebrate the live art event that we will have on the same day.
Five weeks until the events at Sutton Library because of World Book Night! Every week we will have a special event hosted online.
